J is for... Jealousy

Love is blind. You see through emerald eyes –
Rosy lips a poison apple disguise,
A walk in beauty the steps of escape
Curves tessellated two-times, my own shape
An accusation.
Unripe is the light
You shine, fatigued are the gift cards you write.
All I see are the brown eyes of a man
Who wants me on his terms. To keep me - your plan,
‘Til I bear your name like a pencil case
For the schoolboy your heart is - in my place.

  1. Sorry for the delay with my feedback - on everything! Here goes:
In this poem I sense the feeling of someone being suppressed, and then seeing the truth of their reality - it's like a breakthrough by the end, a revelation that love has become tainted by jealousy to the point that she cannot be herself without him seeking to hold her back. It's a powerful double edged poem with a neat doubled symmetry, the two sides opposing - and the white space created by the split highlights the separation that is imminent (both emotionally and literally). Love it! Quite dark, but real.
